A Community Information Center was established in PragatiNagar of Syangja District on 27th august 2007 With the support and initiation of Nepal Rural Information Technology Development Society (NRIDS) and active participation of the local people living in Pragati Nagar Syangja and Suryodaya Club, Syangja. This center provides the basic functionalities of a library, Local Information center, and the meeting point of the people for various discussions and decision making. As NRIDS motto goes "For the Community By the Community and with the Community" CIC PragatiNagar is establsihed and it is running smoothly as Local Information Center. Here, Major daily newspapapers like Kantipur, Gorkhapatra etc and Weekly, monthly newspapers are also available for Local People soon. Also the Villagers paste their notices in the ntice board for advertisment of their production, services and goods.For example if a villager has to sell a buffalo then he comes to the CIC and makes the CIC volunteer to paste that news in the notice board.
NRIDS expects that this CIC will turn to be a succcess in transforming syangja with ICTs. This CIC has also decided to make village profile and Old People Experience book in near coming future. Also the CIC aims to carry out the ICT program half yearly in Syangja District for ICT awareness.President Of NRIDS Mr. Sudip Aryal convinced about the importance of ICTs and Community Information Centers in Rural as well as urban Areas.
